I WISH I COULD BE A FISH
By Nan Yue
If time could be sundered
I might lay off a part of it
morph into a fish
I wish I could be a fish flying
the waves were my wings needless to trim
totally free from conceit
gliding stilly over the ocean
I wish I could be a fish charming
toing and froing
gallivanting about
Both the practice and samsara
at this location
I wish I could be a fish tearless
I was born in water
never misread the saltiness
as tears of heartbreak
I wish I could be a fish sleepless
wearing pajamas knit with lipper
open eyes all the night
but ignore your jugglery
They say my memory just only seven seconds
If so
I'd rather close one of my eyes
didn't even bother to tell you
I love forgetting
For which can I swap a part of time
then roaming the ocean
