From my perspective, interview can be fairly reliable in assessing a candidate's qualifications for a job, but there are some factors that can affect the reliabilities of an interview. For one thing, since there are no exactly accurate answers to subjective questions in an interview, the interviewers may have differenet expectations of the candidates, which can influence the reliability of the interview to a large extent. For another, interview is not a selecting procedure applicant's qualifications, since the position involves skills which are difficult to be measured in an in interview. For these types of jobs, there are some other better methods of selection, such as actual operation and skill competition. So, the interview process can be of tremendous help if interviewers use it effectively, but an interview alone may not be sufficiently reliable to determine a prospective candidate's qualifications.
