Summary

 On April 1,1966, Marilyn received a call from a hospital and she was informed that her mother had died .Without talking to her after the marriage ,she thought it was a tasteless joke . But she still have to take care of the burial arrangements , so she drove back alone .

 In that familiar house , Marilyn got everything handled by the housecleaning company , except a cookbook . She thought her mother's life was a tragedy -her dream is to keep house , yet  her husband is dead and her daughter far away .She don't want to be like her .

 When Marilyn got back , there is little difference in her .She called the professor she met at the Christmas's party  ,wanting to be his assistant ,yet he told her he didn't took her words seriously  , because she have to take care of her family .When she drove to the hospital unconsciously and saw how confidant Dr.Wolff was , she confirmed her idea to run away and continue her studies .

As for James , while her wife was away , he took Nath to swim and hoped he can make some friends .But when the kids make fun of him , he only kept slient , but Jack helped him . James known how it feels , but he chose not to mention it .And Marilyn's disappearance might have tremendous impact on Nath and Lydia .
