The following is my interpretation of these characters:
Angela:She thinks she is romantic.She is looking forward the adult world.And does not to be a ordinary girl.So she starts to smoking,driving,talking with coquettish tone,She packs herself with rich loving experience.These are revealed that her greatest pursuit is to step into the adult world and become the focus of attention.But in the end,she was afraid,The appearance of "romantic" is just a fake.
Jane:Angela’s Friend.One ordinary girl with want to get her father’s attention.She breasts implant、smokes、makes up and listens the rock roll music.She wants to be rebellious actions in these ways. She and her family were in conflict when she didn't know how to solve it,She was not satisfied with his unpromising manner. Her father let Jean feel nausea and embarrassment. So Jean saw him is the ugly side of human nature.Until meet Ricky.Ordinary people often don’t have their own ideas and pursuits.But there is a hand to hold it, these people will be like a firm stone, do not give up. This film let me reminds me another film” Magnificent Scoundrels”which is directed by SongXiaoFei.. They all talk about the experience of a man who lost his life and lived a dull life. Until they met a woman, life began to alive.They start to live a new live, and add brick for their own lives.
"American Beauty",I think the film is not worth seeing at our now age. We should learn to live, to make mistakes, to fall, to win rather than to get lazy and shiftless!
