2. 如何使用并列连词 conj.?

1.and, but,or,so-同一主语情况下,主语不用重复

-He finished lunch and went into the garden.

2.both...and, either...or, neither...nor

both连接主语:两者都

-Both Leo and his GF like to watch movies.

-Both my wife and I are going to the Pairs.

Both连接宾语:两者都

-He can both sing and dance.

either...or...要么a 要么b,谓语就近原则

-Either the teacher or the students are wrong.

neither ... nor... 既不是a也不是b,谓语就近原则

-When the boy is sad, he neither sings nor dances.

3.not only... but also (as well)不仅...而且... 就近原则

-Not only the doctor but also the patients don't know about it. (Do not)

-Not only the patients but also the doctor doesn't know about it. (Do not)

-You must not only wash the dishes but sweep the floor as well. (= but also sweep the floor)

-Shakespeare was not only a writer but also an actor.

课文:

I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I didn't know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me; I repeated my question serval times and at last he understood. He answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled. The he said something and I understood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said. I wonder. In England, each person speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them! Do they speak English?
