Chapter I : Why I should not undertake this trip.
篇章
Stevens, an aging Mr Farraday's butler, at Lord Darlington, has embarked on a six-day motoring trip through the West Country. But his holiday is disturbed by the memories of his past service to the late Lord Darlington.
Mr Farraday's generous offer to 'foot the bill for the gas'. The valet failed to respond to Mr Farraday's persistent banter. Meanwhile, Miss Kenton invited him to West Country. Considering all of those aspects, the valet would undertake his motoring trip to the West Country.
Pieces
our servants' hall would often witness a gathering of some of the finest professionals in England talking late into the night by the warmth of the fire
now,....who prefers to pass the evening not by the fire of the servants' hall, but drinking at the Ploughman's Arms - or indeed, as seems increasingly likely nowadays, at the Star Inn
We were all essentially cut from the same cloth, so to speak.
