Part 1: What We Learned:
John
Part 2: Q&A
1. Did John tell anyone about the story with Savannah?
John told Tony about the story with Savannah.
2. How often did Savannah send John letters? And what did she say in these letters?
Savannah’s letters arrived every ten days or so, she mostly said about casual and chatty things in these letters, and she saved the truth of her feelings until the very end.
3. How did John spend his Christmas?
He had to stay in Germany in case the Russians got it in their heads that they were still mortal enemies.
4. Was there any change in the letters from John’s Dad?
His letters were two or three times longer than the page, and the additional pages were exclusively about coins.
5. How was John’s experience of maneuvers in February? Why did John call it “pointless”?
He thought the whole experience was just about the most ridiculous and idiotic thing the army ever made him do. He thought that maybe their time would have been better spent learning modern war tactics or, at the very least, tuned in to the Weather Channel. But all of things in maneuvers were miserable.
