How to install Mendeley Desktop for Ubuntu/Debian
We provide software packages for Ubuntu/Debian and a repository which allows you to keep Mendeley up to date using Ubuntu's software update tools.
We currently support Ubuntu 12.04 or Debian Squeeze and newer.
- Download and install the latest version of Mendeley
- Run Mendeley Desktop
You can either look for the Mendeley Desktop icon in the Education section of the applications menu or, in a terminal window, enter the following to run Mendeley Desktop as a normal user:
mendeleydesktop
Notes about Mendeley for Debian/Ubuntu

Ubuntu/Debian will automatically check for updates to Mendeley periodically and notify you via the standard software update tools.
If you want to manually check for and install updates you can do so by opening a terminal and entering:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mendeleydesktop
If you wish to install Mendeley Desktop on a computer which you do not have administrator access to, please use our generic Linux packages.
If you wish to remove Mendeley Desktop, you can do so by using Ubuntu's software management tools or by opening a terminal and running:
sudo apt-get remove mendeleydesktop
