Tonight is a silent night, so I decide to write down some feelings regarding to a book that I like so much. Actually, if it is not in such a quiet night, I could not say any word for it.
Although I have heard a lot of speech about searching for a dream, but they seldom touch me until I read this book, and realized that only when I got the secret of the dream can I connect all the information talking about persuing a dream.
The novel is quite easy in understanding all the words, but it takes time to understand the real meaning behind. Luckily, I got the meaning I wanted at the first time I read it. It seems to be a ray of light lightened the dark and gloomy road ahead of me, through it, I found the exit.
Like the author, Paulo Coelho said, this is a symbolic book, which means it contains lots of freedom for you to interpret the book, the characters, the meanings, the words within the book. To me, it presents a pure, clever, clear story showing what is a dream and how to persue it.
One day, the shepherd realized that he didn't want to be a shepherd anymore, and wanted to travel far away from his hometown. Though his father was not agree with him, still he gave his son all his blessings. So the shepherd set off for the unknown trip. After some strange encounters, he got to an oasis in which he found his lover, and wanted to stay with her forever, but in the meantime, the Alchemist whom he respected so much told him that he needed to give up something in order to get what he wants. After some thoughts, the shepherd finally decided that he would leave his lover and oasis behind as he really wanted to find the treasure which had been existed in his heart for a long time and reminded him of the purpose of this travel.
Without doubt that the shepherd came across lots of people who played an important role in his journey, but each decision still needed to be made by the shepherd himself. Many times that he could just give up the willingness of finding the treasure, and stayed in the place to live a normal but stable life. Instead of this, he chose to listen to the call from his heart, and walked straight to his dream.
Doesn't it seem to be the same process compared to mine. Maybe in my journey, I could not meet so many fabulous people who will give guidance and help, but still I can find inspiration more or less along the way, thinking it is no end of it. At least, at this moment, this book is a wonderful guidance to me. It is worthless to talk about what I could find, but it is valuable to believe in what makes a difference to me.
What touched me most of this story is that it is so simple when it comes to persue someone's dream or destiny, that is regardless of all the difficulties and disagreement, one should still stick to his/her heart and soul, and let the heart tell you what to do, and you can just follow it without saying no or any hestitation. Everytime I doubt on the dream, that means I am not so eager to have it anyway. Everytime I am afraid of the difficulties, that means I am not so strong and brave at all. Everytime I want to give up halfway through the journey, that means I am not so persistent at all. All in all, when it comes to persuing a dream, what I need is enough confidence, strong willingness, and unshakable persistence.
The story of the shepherd presents like a mirror to me, and it provides an opportunity for me to review all my searchings till now, no matter they are successful or some failures. Only in this way, I can be honest to myself. Only by knowing the truth, I can find a better way to move forward.
It is such a pure and simple story, but it is also telling the ultimate secret of perusing a dream. It is really a luck to read this book, and it will accompany me along my way for the searching.
Everytime I feel frustrated, disappointed, or am lack of brave, I will think of this book or just read it another time.
It is worthless to talk about persuing a dream everyday in my life, but it is a big deal that I understand the secret of it, and hold it in my heart.
like my favourite sentences saying in the book:
"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
"What you still need to know is this: before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we've learned as we've moved toward that dream. That's the point at which most people give up. It's the point at which, as we say in the language of the desert, one "dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon'."
"Every search begins with beginner's luck. And every search ends with the victor's being severely tested."
Needless to say, this book will be one of the favourite books in my whole life.
