2. 体会这个词 （进阶篇）
“factor”作为名词表示“因素”，作动词它有一个很灵活的动词短语：factor (something) in，意思是“将......考虑进去”。
当我们想表示“考虑到...”时，我们可能会立刻想到 “take something into account” “take something into consideration”，这时候我们其实也可以用 factor something in。来看几个例子。
在北上这样的城市月收入 1.5 万元看似是高薪，但如果考虑到租房和其他生活成本，就没那么多了。就可以说：
When housing and other living costs are factored in, a monthly salary of ￥15,000 in Beijing and Shanghai does not seem that handsome.
美国电影《萨利机长》讲了这样一个故事：一个名叫萨利的机长在飞机引擎受到鸟的撞击的情况下，沉着冷静将飞机降落在哈德逊河上，所有的乘客都成功获救。电影中，事故调查组坚持认为，虽然机长最终救了所有人的性命，但他涉嫌违规驾驶飞机。
在这个情景下，我们想表示“考虑到当时的紧急情形，机长的做法合理且明智的”这层意思时，就可以说：
Once you factor in the specific circumstances, you will appreciate how heroic the pilot's action was. （注意当 factor something in 中的'something'较长时，我们可以把它放到后面，变成 factor in something。）
评价学生的学术表现不能只看绝对的成绩，而应该考虑到学生的社会经济条件，就可以这么说：
Students who are considered underachievers are actually overachievers once their socioeconomic statuses are factored in.
