Recently I was attracted by a book called<>,because of its advanced ideas. I believe most of you must have these questions like me when you first read this book. What’s the meaning of the mockingbird? Why to killa mockingbird? And how does the mockingbird die? It is pretty amusing for me. However, the whole things come to obvious quickly as I go deeper and deeper into the book, which makes me extremely exciting.
The story begins from a little childScout, aged only nine, and she lives with her family in the sleepy Alabama town of Maycomb. Her father is a prominent lawyer who supports her family well. In the world of the story, nearly everywhere is full ofhatred to Negro, and this happens with Scout growing up all the time. Certainly Scout always plays with her brother Jem and her best friend Dill, which lets story childish, but can’t cover the cruel reality. In the trial, black Tom Bobinson is accused of raping, in fact he is innocent and is framed by Bob, but at last he is still guilty and is shot to death forall-white jury convicting him. What a tragedy it is! Where is the justice andequality?
ArthurBoo Radley, a kind recluse
At the beginning of the book, Boo is merely a source of childhood superstition. As the plot develops, he gradually becomes increasingly and intriguingly real to children. He leaves Jem and Scoutpresents and mends Jem’s pants. At the end of the novel, he saves Scout and this makes him finally become fully human. A complete human! He is an important symbol of the good that exists within people.
Mockingbird
“Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but mak emusic for us to enjoy… but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
The title of<>has very little literal connection to the plot, but it carries a great deal of symbolic weight to the book. In this story of innocents destroyed by evil, the “mockingbird” comes to represent the idea of innocence and kindness.
Socialclass
In the representative trial, the racial discrimination is showed completely. This can make a person die unexpectedly.These rigid social divisions make up so much of the adult world, and writercritiques the role of class status through children’s eyes.
Coexistence of good and evil
The most important theme of<>is the book’s exploration of the moral nature of human beings------that is, whether people are essentially good or essentially evil. I really admire that Atticus Finch, the protagonist’s father, doesn’t lose his faith in the human capacity for goodness. I believe that although evil will exist all the time, good will never disappear.
