1. Words and phrases
1) I came up with this character called Creighton the Cretin, and I got on a roll.
On a roll: In the midst of a series of successes.
e.g.: Things are going great for my work. I am on a roll now.
2) I must’ve banged out twenty strips, and I didn’t even break a sweat.
Break a sweat: To put forth a large amount of energy or effort into or toward a task. Usually used in the negative to indicate theopposite. Likened to perspiring due to strenuous physical activity
e.g.: Getting this project done is easier than I thought. I didn’t even break a sweat.
3) Bill is always in detention, so I guess he has a bone to pick with just about every teacher in the school, including Mr. Ira.
Have a bone to pick with: If somebody says this, they mean that they have some complaint to make against the person they are addressing.
e.g.: I guess she is quite sick of babysitting her kids, so she has a bone to pick with just about every friends she met.
4) Rowley went down to Mr. Winsky’s office, and when Rowley came back fifteen minutes later, he looked pretty shaken up.
Shake up: to upset someone
e.g.: I was pretty shaking up when I heard that I lost the job opportunity.
5) I knew if I confessed, I’d lose my hot chocolate privileges.
Privilege: a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people.
e.g.: As a member of this club, I could park my car freely as a privileges.
2. Sentences
1) Apparently Mr. Winsky got a call from a parent who said they witnessed Rowley “terrorizing” the kindergartners when he was supposed to be walking them home from school.
e.g.: The kids are still in bed now when they were supposed to be at school.
2) Mr. Winsky told Rowley he’s going to have to apologize to the kindergartners tomorrow morning, and that he’s suspended from Patrols for a week.
e.g.: I am going to apologize to the kid that was punched by my son, and that my son’s suspended from school for two weeks.
3. Dairy
Today, we went to a restaurant and have Suancai Fish. This restaurant is really popular. People get lined up early at 11:00am. The food is pretty yummy, but the most interesting thing is that they only have two waiters for such a big place. Why? Cause most of the things, like, placing order, checking bill, filling water etc, are all done by yourself. It saves a lot of labor work. You know, nowadays, labor costs pretty much. It’s very smart of the owner. I guess he/she might have make a killing of it.
