We had a lovely walk by the bay in Sausalito. Our friend Paul jumped into the waters for a quick swim. Although the water was pretty cold, he just dived right in. Then, he showed us how to do a somersault -- it's like a forward roll into water, really fun!
Our friends have the habit of swimming in the bay early morning every day, so I think they are already very used to the coldness. It's not true though. They know it's cold and they do feel it's cold. They've tried getting into water from the beach, with the feet touching water first, the brains sent messages like "Oh my goodness! So cold! Go back!" So they decided to jump in water every time since then.
It is said that for people who are used to swim in cold water (of course, not too ridiculously cold) and those who are scared of it (like me), there's really nothing different in the body. The only difference is that for people who are used to the cold waters, they're less afraid of the fact that the water is cold. For those who are scared of swimming in cold waters, the worry about the coldness can overpower the body, making them shake and even stop breathing.
