Today’s EMF (English Michael Fun) was about an interview of a famous tennis player, Maria Sharapova. I’m not interested in the world-known tennis player, but her words reminded me of my private English teacher, Wei.
Here is what Maria Sharapova said.
This fantastic world champion with runway looks said she’s not the person that likes to come home and just sit on the couch for days on end and not do anything. She likes to put her hands in things.
So does Wei.
During our classes, in order to practice my listening and speaking skill, Wei had me do some free-talk exercises. We learned a lot about each other from the conversations. We've got to know each other while studying. It's a really pleasant time for both of us.
I know Wei doesn't bear herself empty- handed either. Her husband would like her to relax and keep fit while preparing for the pregnancy. But Wei couldn't sit still all day. She not only jogs and does yoga, but also works every day. Luckily Wei is such an energetic lady, otherwise I wouldn’t have met her nor she would have been my private English teacher.
I'm a quiet person. I can watch movies, read books or listen to music at home all day. But I like sporty people. The beauty of life is shown by moving people all the time. I'm curious about Wei's sporty character. So in our last lesson I interviewed Wei with some questions.
Question: Were you interested in sports when you were young or did your parents train you with some sports?
Answer: I was not sporty when I was young at all. I always failed my PE exams. I remember I was struggling to pass my 1,500 meters run exam when I was at university. But when I moved to London, I started to jog in the parks. And I joined some charity 5 kilometers races with my friends, then 10K races and even two half marathon races. I started to enjoy doing exercise, it makes me feel healthy and keeps me energetic.
I started to agree about that view：Healthy body makes healthy mind and builds up good characters. I admire Wei’s braveness. After her graduation, she left her hometown to look for a job in Beijing on her own. Was it because she's sporty and had a strong mind?
I really need to do some sports. And I will.
Question: I find your laughter is bright and clear. Do you think you are an optimistic person most of time? Who or what experience affected you a lot?
A: Yes, I am optimistic most of the time. Although sometimes I feel down when I experience some troubles, I always try my best to stay positive. One of my Swedish friends said I am the most optimistic person she has ever met, hahaha. My mother has affected me a lot. After she was divorced with my father, she was brave enough to raise my sister and me. She worked very hard and she is always very positive and optimistic about our future.
Wei is lucky to have her mother who gives her the most positive influence. Though they suffered some hard time, the bright laughter and the positive outlooks kept them going. They didn’t waste the gift that God gave them.
We have some characters by nature, but sometimes we are also affected a lot by other factors. I'm lucky to be an optimistic person too, just like my father. So I'm not scared of troubles or problems. Maybe I'm not strong enough to solve each problem, but I'm passional to face the challenges and would never give up easily.
Q: What made you determine to immigrate to Britain?
Wei told me she found a job to be an English teacher in a middle school in Being after she graduated from the university. .She would be a patient, popular and well respected English teacher based on my experience of being her student. I have enjoyed her lessons very much.
Answer: I followed my English boyfriend to London. Though we didn’t work out, I stayed there and settled down with a nice job and great friends around me. I love living in London and consider it my home city now.
In fact I am curious about Wei’s love story. She told me her mother wished her to marry a doctor or a chef, so she could be well looked after. Her husband is a doctor and cooks very well. What a successful marriage Wei has achieved. I could feel her love to her husband from the way she talked about him.
But Wei didn't have enough time to tell her love story at our last lesson. All good things come to an end. The pleasant time is always short. Our last lesson nearly prolonged half an hour. In fact Wei never stopped the lessons because the time was up. Classes always could be over when we completed the topic and Wei would ensure I had no problems left about the lesson. The scene of Wei correcting my pronunciation and discussing with me about some expressions in my writings would stay in my mind and encourage me to keep on my study.
I like to listen to Wei's story about her dog Harvey. Not only because I like dogs but also because I could feel that Wei treats him like her child. It was like she just told me stories about a lovely child. Then Sometimes I imagine which lucky baby can be Wei's child. It would have a beautiful, graceful, talented and energetic mother. （Maybe one day I'll enjoy the violin melody played by Wei）On the other hand, I can't imagine how cute Wei's child would be because of the parents' good genes.
Wei, thanks for your advice and the book you sent to me, I'll read more, practice more and keep on writing. Of course we can't be strangers though we have finished our lessons. Would you mind me being your lifelong friend and learn from you for free? LOL.
Wei, wish the baby to come to you soon. A person with bright laughter, full of energy and who loves flowers must always have good luck!
