To tell you the truth, this is the first time I read this novel in original version (except that in film and in Chinese). Thanks to your platform, I still have the chance to recap on my childhood with English novel lovers.
I’m so impressed and even shocked by little Alice’s sparling characteristic, that I cannot help writing down the following words.
When the “shrinked” Alice could not reach that golden key to the door from the table, she did not choose only to CRY. As I could remember in my childhood playing with girls, in front of frustration, who mostly took 3 steps: to be fear, to cry loudly and to wait for parents’ help. Admittedly, I was once that little girl(How brave I was to confess that once timid girl before mature). Instead, Alice consoled to herself there was no use in crying like that !
The next step, she even proposed advise to herself to leave off this minute, which even shocked me at first sight. For a girl of age preschool, how she showed such maturity in case of fear and difficulty? Usually, for an adult with social experience, he learns when and how to control emotions of fear and upset. Naturally, it’s hard for a child to possess this character, isn’t it? Or maybe, let’s imagine, the writer himself made Alice a brave model for children to learn?
Later, when a “EAT ME” cake came into sight of Alice, she made a braver choice: “Well, I’ll eat it,’ said Alice, ‘and if it makes me grow larger, I can reach the key; and if it makes me grow smaller, I can creep under the door; so either way I’ll get into the garden, and I don’t care which happens!”
Haha, it is more obvious here that the writer intentionally structured Alice as a matured adult. In front of delicious food, who else can defend the tempt? Especially for such a little girl in a fancy adventure. Anyway, I like this paragraph as it ends up with “I DON’T CARE WHICH HAPPENS”. According to my experience in grown-ups, it matters more to take actions than to compare what choose is better. So just do it. This apply to everyone and everything in case of difficulty. Fear is the real barrier.
Just consider, how much we once cared and no actions taken, thud leading to many regretd nowadays. It leaves me more thoughts…
