After a much needed break (more than one month), I’m back today on my 100 days of daily UI design project. Today's theme is a “Location Tracker", an interface that track something’s location.
I remember the day when I got this theme, well, more than one month ago, and I thought, uh - a running route tracker? Can I think of anything other than what everyone else is designing? Finally, after the holidays and all the festivity, when I looked at this theme again — why not a Santa tracker?
Ok, ok, it’s not something new. There are quite a few websites doing it, including Google, who created an entire Santa village. But I still thought this would be fun, plus, I will design it for the Apple Watch, an interface that I’ve never touched before.
I started with blasting out ideas on paper, on what elements I wanted to track and what they might look like. Then, I quickly checked out Apple’s design guidelines for Apple Watch. I checked very roughly, only grabbing info I need, such as fonts, general design styles. I did not plan to remember everything from the guidelines at this point. I also got some really good Apple Watch design templates just by Googling them.
I finished this design using Illustrator and Sketch. I really wished Sketch to be better at drawing vectors, but it sucked so much. I drew a cute Santa hat over a location pin in Illustrator, and finished up things with Sketch.
