约瑟夫·鲁德亚德·吉卜林（Joseph Rudyard Kipling, 1865 - 1936 ），英国小说家、诗人。1907年吉卜林凭借作品《基姆》获诺贝尔文学奖，当时年仅42岁，是至今为止最年轻的诺贝尔文学奖得主。
这首《如果》是 吉卜林 写给他 12 岁儿子的诗。
并且，这首诗也被用来作为 迈克尔·杰克逊（Michael Jackson）的 墓志铭。

如果
If you can keep your head when all about you, Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
如果你能，在别人不知所措却对你横加指责的时候，仍能保持清醒的头脑；
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
如果你能，在所有人都怀疑你的时候，
But make allowance for their doubting too;
仍然相信自己，并能体谅别人对你的怀疑；
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
