The difference of Christmas between China and Japan.
How's your Christmas? Is it merry? I hope so. Do you celebrate with your family?
In Japan, they celebrate it well and most of the people, they celebrate it on the 24th of December instead of on the Christmas day itself. They share fried chicken and cake. Even two weeks before Christmas, housewives would order fried chicken and cake just in case they forget it or they will be busy during the Christmas week. You can see many Christmas trees, fried chicken and cakes in front of the shops. I asked one of my friends why do they have to eat these and why do they celebrate it on the 24th instead of 25th which is really the Christmas day. My friend just said that most people have to work on the 25th because this year it's Monday so they have it on Sunday. About the fried chicken, since KFC came to Japan many years ago and introduce their fried chicken only on 24th and 25th, they only advertised it during these days. That time there was a long line of people waiting for their turn to buy their fried chicken, the passersby, out of curiosity fell in line themselves to see what was it all about and it has been a tradition ever since.
That's in Japan. In China, we don't actually celebrate this but as more and more young people are influenced by the holidays all over the world, we gradually begin to celebrate it. Most of them would go out with friends, teh enjoy not only chicken and cake but other delicious food as well. Most parents would give gifts to their babies when they are sleeping and they make their children believe in Santa Claus. If the children have been good the whole year then they would receive a present, otherwise, there would be no present for them. Christmas in China is mainly for the young people and children. Most adults would spend the day like normal, they would probably invite three-five friends over for dinner and talk about things that happened recently and that's it. On the 24th, most of us eat apples and oranges since we believe that apple means safety and all good things may happen. That's the difference between Japan and China in terms of celebrating Christmas. How about in your country? How do you celebrate Christmas?
