“I could only see it through the black dog”是意译，直译的就是“我却只能透过黑狗看这个世界”，“it”代指“世界”。（I am not quite sure.）透过“黑狗”看到的世界灰暗的，能想象抑郁症患者的痛苦了吗?

stop，cease, pause
（1）stop意为“停止”，用作及物动词时，表示“使（人或物等的动作）停下来”，可接名词、动名词，含有突然或短时间停止的意味；用作不及物动词时，接不定式表示目的。
The students stopped talking when the teacher came in.
