A pitch includes defense and offense parts. Usually home team plays as defense part , while visitor team is chose as offense part. When one of members is struck out, two parts exchange their position and vice versa.
All of athletes in the plate belongs to the defense part except the batter. After the pitcher throw baseball overhand towards the batter position, the pitch makes decision whether to hit the ball basing on the judgement. There is rectangular area in front of the pitcher, which boarders are seperated by the home plate, pitcher's leg and chest. If the ball crosses the rectangular area, it is called as strike. Otherwise we call it ball by the courtesy of umpire.
Strike and ball are the basic definition for baseball. 3 strike knock out batter. 4 balls mean a walk. Strike is defined in three situations. First, a batter hits foul ball. Second, a batter swings but misses the ball. Third, the ball does not across the strike zone and the batter does not swing. The count shows the ratio of number of balls to numbers of strike. In the situation that pithcher throws four balls on a batter, the pitcher can get a opportunity of a walk that a pitcher walks freely to first base. When the count reaches 3-2, the next pitch may result in walk, strike out or another pitch.
If the next pitch is a hit, there may be many possibilities which should be analysed carefully. When fly ball is caught by defender, it means batter is out. If the fly ball hits the ground and is picked by fielder to tag the runner before runner runs into base, runner is struck out. If runner successfully walks into base before tagged, runner would be safe. In the cases that batter hit the ball out of fence, the home run may come true because of enough time to be provided. Or runner's speed is so quick that runner can pass all the plate in the limited time.
Each game is divided into 9 innings. Each inning includes top and bottom section. When the score is level, it will need extra time to compete to get championship.
