The progress that I made these days is that I want to understand the words that I think it difficult to understand in English explaination. Every time I talk with , not only Chinese but also English, I want to translate what I speak in English.
Then I want to inspire my students to speak as much English as possible in class to improve their fluency and correctness. It doesn't matter what mistakes they make in class. Why do the students hate speaking English in class?First, maybe I amn't a good speaking model, so they don't think it is necessary to speak English in class and we can solve the problem in Chinese easily and quickly. Second,it is also possible that they meet new words and can't express clearly, so they keep their voice down while meeting difficult words. It makes them feel embarrassed . Third, they don't know how to make the conservation move on.
For example, where are you from? You may say like this,“I'm from NYC." Then you end your conversation with others because others don't know how to keep the conversation. But if you speak this way,Well I used to live in NYC, but now I live in Rio. I loved NYC, but the weather sucks for 8 months out of the year so I can’t do the outdoor stuff I like. And even more importantly the people in Rio have something that New Yorkers don’t, which is why I moved.”Now you have interesting conversational threads for this person to pick up on. They may ask you more questions from what you said. Next, there is little information gap between the two speakers. All the linguistic contexts are created by us teachers, so I think the context that we use to motivate their dialogue is not in their feet. Thus, teachers may help by involving students in choosing some of the materials for the class, engaging them in setting their own goals for language learning as well as providing activities that allow using the language in and outside the class .If motivating learners includes allowing them to being partially or totally in control of their learning, then it follows that the English courses should provide opportunities for students to partake in choice of the content, methods and evaluation that both enhance their learning or achieve program objectives. Consequently, instructors should revisit the English Program to meet students’ needs. Motivating our students to learn the language should be priority as it is only through sharpening this ‘tool’ that they can be successful in both their academic and professional lives.Let us join together, share our stories, and give our students the best opportunities to learn and make a difference.Sometimes, we also feel that the I have no difficulty in mastering the vocabulary related to this topic, but why can't I speak it out. Something hurt my teeth. Then why? I think it's about safe conversation with others. We feel it is difficult to calm down . It happens like this because we don't eliminate the fear of speaking. We pay our attention to whom we are speaking to instead of what we want to communicate with others. Just listen and find what you're interested in, foreigners make your talk smooth in a comfortable way. Only through speaking, you can make your conversation move on.
In my opinion, in English class, we should speak in English and English only. When you exchange your ideas, share your experience with others to move on the topic. The context we created should motivate their desire to talk. Always pay attention to the content you're talking.
